Naturerlebnis am Großen Heiligen See

Ob in der Morgenstille oder bei einem phantastischen Sonnenuntergang: Immer wieder greifen unsere Gäste zur Kamera, um eine der besonderen Lichtstimmungen über dem Großen Heiligen See einzufangen. Kein Zufall. Denn unser Haus heißt nicht nur „Hotel am See“, es liegt tatsächlich direkt am Ufer. Eine großartige Kulisse und ein besonderes Naturerlebnis, das wir an dieser Stelle etwas genauer vorstellen möchten.

Der Große Heilige See liegt im Biosphärenreservat Schorfheide-Chorin und gehört zur Eberswalder Stadtseerinne, einem rund 5 Kilometer langen Gebiet, in dem sich mehrere Seen aneinanderreihen. Er ist rund 11 Hektar groß und bis zu 12 Meter tief. Um Ufer wachsen Röhricht und Gehölze – Erlen und Weiden Schilf und Seggenriede. Auf dem See blühen Seerosen. Zwei Zuläufe und mehrere Quellen sorgen dafür, dass sich das Wasser schnell erneuert. Der Große Heilige See liegt im Nahrungsrevier eines regelmäßig brütenden Fischadlerpaares, ein Biber hinterlässt mit seinen Dämmen sichtbare Spuren, Libellen und Amphibien haben hier ihren Lebensraum. Bis zu 29 Libellenarten wurden hier beobachtet, darunter die farbenprächtige Feuerlibelle.

Barsch, Hecht, Karauschen, Karpfen, Rotauge, Schleie und Silberkarpfen kommen im See vor und lassen auch das Herz von Anglern höher schlagen. Angelkarten gibt es auch bei uns im Hotel.

Auf dem See können oft Schellenten und Haubentaucher beobachtet werden. Letzterer baut sein Nest gern auf den Seerosenfeldern vor dem Ufer. Oft kann man auch den Eisvogel bei der Jagd in Ufernähe beobachten – oder den scheuen und schnellen Vogel, der blau in der Sonne glänzt, zumindest hören.

Seit 2008 ist der See, der als einer der wertvollsten im Biosphärenreservates gilt, im Besitz des Naturschutzbundes (NABU) Brandenburg.

Bis in die 1960-er Jahre war der Große Heilige See ein pflanzenreicher Klarwassersee. Die Wasserqualität verschlechterte sich allerdings, als in den 1970-er und 1980-er Jahren am Ufer des Sees unter anderem intensive Entenmast betrieben wurde und die Nährstoffe ins Wasser gelangten. Der See hat sich heute wieder erholt, gilt aber nicht als vollständig regeneriert.

Der Große Heilige See lädt ein zu entspannten Stunden am und auf dem Wasser. Genießen Sie den Blick von unserer Terrasse oder von der Wiese am Hotel. Lassen Sie nach einem erlebnisreichen Tag die Seele und die Beine baumeln. Der See wird  natürlich gern von der Bevölkerung und von Gästen zum Baden und Angeln genutzt. Bei uns ist das direkt vom Steg hinter dem Hotel möglich. Um den See führt ein Wanderweg auf dem sie in einer knappen Stunde bequem um den See herum wandern können. Der Weg führt sie dabei durch Buchen, Erlen- und Mischwälder, vorbei an blütenreichen Feuchtwiesen. An mehreren Stellen haben sie dabei einen schönen Blick auf Wasser.
